We are having a fundraiser to get medical treatment in Houston, Texas. My dad, Jene, was diagnosed with Carcinoid cancer of the stomach in January 2010. He underwent surgery to remove the tumor in his stomach but the tumors on his liver are inoperable. Jene fell into the 1% of carcinoid patients that also suffer from carcinoid syndrome. Carcinoid syndrome causes fatigue, light headedness, irritable bowels and can affect the heart.
Jene receives monthly injections to treat the symptoms of carcinoid syndrome, but unfortunately, the tumors in his stomach have continued to grow. Standard cancer treatments are not effective for carcinoid cancer. Houston, Texas clinical trials are underway to receive FDA approval for new treatment in the United States. Germany, Italy, and other European countries have been administering these treatments for the past 10 years with promising results.
The clinical trial in Houston costs around $58,000 and because it is not FDA approved, insurance companies will only cover a small portion. The majority of cost is out of pocket.
Please join us in our efforts to raise money for Jene to receive treatment. Any contribution or donation you can afford would be deeply appreciated.
