We will be spending this weekend winterizing our “vintage” RV. We call it Eddie, my brother actually named it Eddie and it stuck. He says it reminds him of the RV in Chevy Chase’s Christmas Vacation. I don’t know, what do you think?
They even sell a Christmas ornament, now I know what I’ll get my brother for Christmas! Funny, you gotta love Cousin Eddie, I think we all have a Cousin Eddie somewhere in our families.

There are so many beautiful places here in Wisconsin. A person really doesn’t need to go far to find a new adventure. We drove about 40 minutes and spent the day at Crex Meadows in Grantsburg, Wisconsin. Crex Meadows is a 30,000 acre wildlife area. What will you find at Crex Meadows? Over 270 species of birds, at least 86 butterflies, and 720 species of plants. They have a beautiful driving tour, or if you’d rather hike there are tons of trails for that too. Next time you’re in the Grantsburg area give yourself a little break and take a mini-vacation to Crex Meadows. For more information visit www.crexmeadows.org
I was thinking the other day about all the fancy games that the kids have now days and I remembered one from my childhood. This was actually the first video game I ever played, Asteroids! So simple but so much fun! Go ahead, give it a try, by the way I had to use my forward slash button to get it to shoot and my right, left, forward arrows to get my arrow to move. Enjoy!
We went hiking on the Ice Age Trail yesterday at Straight Lake State Park near Luck, Wisconsin. Wow, what a beautiful, untouched park. We walked in about 2 miles to Straight Lake. I wanted to fish but couldn’t get close enough to the water because of the marshy area by the shore. Next time we’ll hike in from the south side and I hope to be able to fish. There isn’t a boat landing that I know of so if a person wanted to fish from a boat you’d need to carry in a canoe or a kayak. If I can figure out how to get close enough to shore to fish I think this would be a great lake to fish!
Here is a picture of Straight Lake, if you look closely you’ll see a small island out in the middle of the lake.
Here is a link to the Wisconsin DNR which will give you more information about the park. I don’t think many people know about this park, we only saw 4 other people all afternoon and there was absolutely no one on the lake itself, except for a few swans.
The trails are dirt, about two feet wide or so, a very easy hike. We will be going back soon to hike in from the south, I’ll let you know how we do fishing!

Mike Ehredt of Hope, Idaho is running through Wisconsin, literally! Mike is running to honor those who have served and died in Afghanistan. Flags bearing the Name, Rank, Age and Hometown of a fallen U.S. Military Member will be placed each mile, thus creating an invisible holding of hands from our northern border to the Gulf of Mexico outside Galveston, TX.
You can watch his progress on a map at his website which is www.projectamerica.com, today he is near Hager City.
My friend Jenna manages the Best Western in Spooner, she hosted Mike last weekend as he made his way through the area. Her daughter, Chelsea, walked with Mike and even placed a flag with him!
Here is a the link to the story of this flag, SPC Joshua Lee Hill. Click here.
If you see a flag along side the road in Wisconsin it was probably placed there by Mike, take a moment to remember our fallen soldiers. R.I.P. Joshua.

For some time now Pinterest has been know as being “girly”, and I think for the most part that’s true although it is changing. It’s not exactly a sportsman’s hangout so to speak. I recently found the Hunting/Fishing version of Pinterest – www.wallhangers.net and you don’t need an invite to sign up! Here is a screen shot, it is pretty new but I have a feeling this is going to be huge within a few months….

The Packers preseason hasn’t been so good but that’s all about to change! I found this leaf yesterday and I think it’s the perfect Packer leaf. I hope it gives the Pack good luck in the rest of their games!
For a long time we’ve been trying to get a good trail cam picture of this little guy. He and his mother have been hanging around our yard for most of the summer. They love the apples from a tree that is right next to our driveway. The mother is in just about every picture we have, she’s not afraid of us in the least bit. But Joe is a different story, he’s very alert and runs when he hears any noise or if he smells anything out of the ordinary. I was so glad to finally get a good picture of him! His mother, “Tiny” is in the upper right corner, she’s always around.
Happy Friday Wisconsin! Fun show today, first up we’ll be talking about the Powerball jackpot and also unclaimed money in Wisconsin, then a little DNR news, sports, Wisconsin events and our featured Wisconsin small business. Don’t forget we have some awesome blues music in the show too!
Yes, you can grow cantaloupe in Wisconsin! This is the first year we’ve tried it and our cantaloupe are doing great, it looks like we’ll get about a dozen good size cantaloupe from our garden this year. Here are links to a few of my favorite cantaloupe recipes.
We spent last weekend pressure washing the siding on our house and just before we started I found this Walking Stick. I haven’t seen a walking stick since I was a little kid, brings back a lot of memories of our cabin in Hayward, Wisconsin. We used to keep them for pets for a few days and then let them go again, they kept us entertained!
They normally adapt the color of their body to their surroundings but I guess this guy just couldn’t quite get to a complete tan color.
The scientific name for Walking Sticks is Phasmatodea, there are many different species in the world but this is the only kind I’ve seen here in Wisconsin.
Happy Friday Wisconsin! Fun show today, first up we’ll be talking about some great resources for canning food, gardening and a few recipes too, then a little DNR news, sports, Wisconsin events and our featured Wisconsin small business. Don’t forget we have some awesome blues music in the show too!
